The Galician Language Association (in Galician-Portuguese, Associaçom Galega da Língua), better known by its acronym AGAL, is a non-profit organization founded and legally established in 1981. Its main goals are to achieve the full normalization of Galician (that is, the Galician variety of the Galician-Portuguese language) and its reintegration into the linguistic sphere to which it belongs, the Galician-Luso-Brazilian-African group. It is part of the reintegrationist movement, being the largest organization in terms of members and responsible for setting the spelling and morphological standard for Galician in line with that used in the other varieties of our language.
Since 2023, it has been part of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa, CPLP) with the status of Consultative Observer. Since 2024, it has been a member of the Valentim Paz-Andrade Observatory of Lusophony (Observatório da Lusofonia Valentim Paz-Andrade), a body belonging to the Galician Government for the relations of Galicia with the portuguese-speaking world.
Its current president, since July 2023, is Jon Amil.
